The Big Fix:  Follow two daring filmmakers, Josh and Rebecca Tickell, (FUEL, FREEDOM) as they go undercover to expose the secrets of the largest industry on earth Big Oil. The Tickells set out to investigate the root causes of the 2010 BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico and in so doing, discover a vast network of corporate and government malfeasance.

In 2013, some scientists at the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference said that as much as one-third of the oil may have mixed with deep ocean sediments, where it risks damage to ecosystems and commercial fisheries.

In 2013, more than 2.7 million pounds of "oiled material" were removed from the Louisiana coast. In the same year, tar balls were being reported almost every day on Alabama and Florida beaches.

The Long Island Solar Farm (LISF) is a 32-megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant built through a collaboration including BP Solar, the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), and the Department of Energy. The LISF, located on the Brookhaven National Laboratory site, began delivering power to the LIPA grid in November 2011, and is currently the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in the Eastern United States.

It is generating enough renewable energy to power approximately 4,500 homes, and is helping New York State meet its clean energy and carbon reduction goals.

John I am glad that you are pushing the Solar Advantage on LI.
Thanks for all your help.

Solar panels are soaring in popularity, almost becoming a standard for new homes in several markets, Bloomberg reports. Six of the 10 largest U.S. home builders say they now include solar panels in new construction, and consumer demand for them is expected to soar, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association.

Solar Energy And LED Lightbulbs

SolarCity installed my solar panels at the end of June 2013.

The system is producing 35 to 45 kWh per day. In two months the system has covered my entire electrical needs including central air-conditioning and produce a credit of over 1000 kWh. The credits are good for one year. I plan to use Electrical space heaters during the winter to supplement my oil heat. This way my solar panels will be also providing some of my winter heating needs. Last year I converted all of my lighting fixtures to LED lightbulb. LED light bulbs are costly, but save an immense amount of electrical energy. The return on your investment when you purchase an LED lightbulb is unbelievable. The bulb costs between $10 and $15, but over the life of the bulb you save $200-$300. Incandescent lightbulbs last about 1000 hours. Compact fluorescent last 6000 to 10,000 hours. LED lights last between 30,000 to 50,000 hours.
